Monoprice's premium is high, but it's not much anymore. Now, Monoprice has launched the SB-600 5.1.2 system at a price of less than $450.
This is not just a soundbar. Monoprice SB-600 is a bar, an 8-inch wireless subwoofer and two wireless satellite speakers that can help create a true TV surround sound effect. Monoprice even comes with a wall mount bracket, remote control and HDMI cable.
The main pole itself includes a 2 x 2-inch cone for the center channel, a 2.5-inch driver for the left and right sides, and a tweeter and upward firing unit for the side. Their total power reaches 125W.
There are no height units on the two satellite speakers. These are just surround sound channels and are designed to be placed behind the viewer. Their power output is only 15W each, but it is expected that the cone-shaped 180W submersible that launches downwards can provide enough power.
Somehow, Monoprice still brings changes to a very healthy feature set. There are two Dolby Vision and 4K-rated HDMI inputs on the back-allowing you to use the system as a hub-and a separate eARC-enabled HDMI output to help provide the best audio quality, depending on Your source. There are also ports for coaxial cable, optical fiber, USB and 3.5mm lines and wireless audio via Bluetooth 4.2.
For paper prices, this is certainly a good package, but the proof of the pudding will be listening. With any luck, this should be a neat and compelling compromise for those on a limited budget who want to take the first step towards external TV sound.
