Sony adds FX3 to Cinema Line

Sony Electronics has released

, The camera combines Sony’s digital cinema technology with the advanced imaging features of the Alpha brand mirrorless camera.

FX3 is the latest product of Sony Cinema Line. It has autofocus function, five-axis in-vivo image stabilization with active mode, handheld shooting design and advanced heat dissipation function to extend recording time, all in a compact, lightweight body achieve.

Neal Manowitz, vice president of imaging products and solutions for the Americas of Sony Electronics, said: "FX3 is the perfect tool for content creators who want to enter the world of film photography." Love of functions, and a new body optimized for video shooting. We are happy to continue to support creators around the world with the best tools. "

The full-frame, back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor (the effective number of pixels for video recording is approximately 10.2) and the Bionz XR image processing engine together ensure high sensitivity and low noise. The standard ISO range is 80-102,400 (expandable to 409,600 when shooting video), and the dynamic range is 15+ files.

Like other Cinema Line cameras, FX3 allows users to use the S-Cinetone color matrix to create a movie-like appearance in the camera. Inspired by the color science used in Sony Venice cameras, S-Cinetone provides natural midtones, soft colors and smooth highlights.

Creators can record in 4K at speeds up to 120 fps, and achieve slow-motion images (up to 5 times) with QFHD (3840 x 2160) resolution through autofocus.

The FX3 weighs 1.58 pounds (including battery and memory card) and measures 5.11" x 3.33" x 3.06". It is ideal for handheld shooting, pan-tilt and drone installation tasks. The camera handle is designed to provide the best flexibility Performance, stability and comfort. The camera body has five 1/4-20 UNC threaded mounting points that can be used to install compatible accessories. The included XLR handle is firmly mounted on the body through a multi-function interface shoe without any special Tools, and provides three additional threaded mounting points; optional can be firmly connected accessories, such as external monitors, recorders and wireless microphones.

To support four-channel 24-bit audio recording, the XLR handle includes two balanced XLR/TRS audio inputs and an additional 3.5mm stereo two-channel jack. After connecting the optional XLR or TRS microphone, the XLR adapter on the handle will take care of A/D conversion and DSP, and transmit digital audio data directly to the camera. FX3 also includes a 3.5mm stereo input on the camera body.

The controls (ISO, aperture and white balance adjustment) frequently used in movie shooting are located on the handle and on the top of the body for easy operation. In addition, 140 functions can be assigned to 15 custom keys. The zoom lever located on the top of the handle can not only control compatible power zoom lenses, but also can apply Clear Image Zoom to non-powered zoom and fixed focus lenses. The lever can also achieve smooth zoom, which is difficult for manual zoom ring control.

There are recording lights (tally) on the top, front and back of the camera so that operators and professionals can easily confirm the records. The side-opening variable-angle touch screen LCD monitor is easy to operate and is suitable for lens mounted on the pan-tilt, complex angle and handheld operation. Flexible exposure modes make the FX3 have similar automatic/manual switch operations to other FX series cameras, and the aperture, shutter speed and ISO can be set separately.

FX3 incorporates fans for active cooling and effective heat dissipation, enabling uninterrupted 4K 60p recording without thermal shutdown. The camera also has a dust-proof and moisture-proof design and a magnesium alloy chassis. USB Power Delivery supports fast charging for uninterrupted recording.

FX3 is compatible with multiple recording functions, including S-Log3 gamma and S-Gamut3.cine. It also supports XAVC S (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Long GOP) and XAVC SI (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 Intra) formats for internal recording in 4K (QFHD) and FHD, and XAVC HS (MPEG- H HEVC / H.265, 4K only) format. You can output 4K 60p video in 10-bit 4:2:2 or 16-bit original format to external devices through the FX3 full-size HDMI Type-A jack.

FX3 also has two media slots compatible with CFexpress Type A or SDXC cards. The same data can be recorded on two cards at the same time for backup, and when the first media card is full, the "relay" mode will automatically switch to the second media card. The development of this new camera aims to provide professional creators with high-speed wireless LAN function (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band) and wired LAN connection through a compatible USB to Ethernet adapter, so as to provide them with better help. FX3 supports the transfer of video and static files to a designated remote FTP server, and allows remote shooting from a PC via a USB Type-C terminal via Wi-Fi or Superspeed USB 5Gbps connection using the "remote" function of the Imaging Edge desktop application.

Sony FX3 is priced at US$3,900 and can be purchased through Sony’s authorized resellers.
