Sources told us that a new 4K-enabled Switch model will be released in 2021, which will update the OLED panel and provide 4K output for UHDTV.

. The system will also have the functionality of a docking station.

According to sources, Nintendo will release a new high-end Switch handheld game console model this year to complete the multi-billion-dollar platform series. The new Switch will undergo three major improvements: the screen, resolution output and a new base.

Switch will upgrade from the current 6.2-inch LCD panel to a larger 7-inch OLED screen, similar to the PlayStation Vita PCH 1000 series released by Sony. The new Switch panel will not undergo a resolution upgrade, and will remain at 720p resolution to maintain pixel density and maintain low heat.

Nintendo plans to use Samsung's OLED screen as a low-cost, high-performance solution. More and more smart phone manufacturers are promoting flexible OLED panels for updating devices, thereby reducing the demand and price of rigid displays. With the efficiency of OLED screens, black pixels can be completely turned off, so the conversion to OLED will provide more vivid colors and improve mobile battery life. When playing in the daytime, the glare of the Switch will also be greatly reduced.

The so-called Switch Pro will also output 4K video signals for UHDTV. It’s not clear how it works-whether it's a new chip with NVIDIA DLSS and AI-based extensions, an upgraded base, or both-but we do know that the enhanced model will get a new one Pedestal.

The current Switch docking station only supports 1080p output. The switch uses the DisplayPort alternate mode on USB Type-C for video output, which uses a special converter chip,

.

To output at 4K, Switch will need to use

, The resolution can reach 4K resolution at 60Hz.

The new Switch can also use updated internal chips. We are not sure if NVIDIA and Nintendo created one

. However, Tegra X1 (based on 2017 Switch) and 16nm Tegra X1+ (newer version in 2019)

, So Nintendo may use the existing Switch chip for the new model.

Nintendo has not announced a new upgraded version of 4K Switch, we should see more information before 2021.
