Many graphic artists will say that their next large-scale hardware purchase will require a pressure-sensitive stylus function with a high-quality screen. ASUS has managed to integrate these features into its new ASUS ZenBook Flip S (UX371), along with all the powerful features that one can get from a graphics suite compatible with Windows.

When unpacking the laptop, it was clear that ASUS focused on the lightest possible device to cater to the needs of graphic artists. The device weighs 1.2 kilograms and is one of the lightest Intel i7 laptops we have ever encountered.

Other accessories in the box include protective sleeve, pressure sensitive pen, USB-A to Gigabit LAN adapter and USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter. As all adapters imply, the ports on the laptop are limited to essentials. In other words, ordinary users who use wired headsets only need to leave the small USB-C adapter at the end of the headset. The lack of a built-in Ethernet port is not a major loss, especially because it supports Wi-Fi 6.

There is a full-size HDMI port and two Thunderbolt 4 ready USB-C ports on the left, both ports can be used for charging, and the charging indicator (a feature that Mac users will appreciate) is on the left. On the right is a single USB-A 3.1 Gen 2 (for older accessories) and the power button.

When you open the laptop, you can see a 13.3-inch 4K OLED screen, which can be folded back to tablet mode, which can easily become a selling point for laptops. The combination of OLED, 4K resolution and HDR makes it easily one of the best laptop screens for creative ideas. It has also been verified by Pantone-covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. Combining this function with the included stylus that can support 4096 levels of pressure, graphic artists and note takers can get an experience close to paper on the screen. The input delay of the stylus is comparable to that of the third-generation iPad Pro, making the UX371 a better choice for users who want more accurate colors.

The Windows Hello IR camera is a good addition, it allows users to log in with their face. We tried to use the printout and another screen showing the registered face, and the computer could not be unlocked. This is similar to the point projection technology in the new iPhone, so it is also very safe. It can be used across profiles, so if there are multiple users, the user who is viewing the screen will log in to the corresponding account.

The performance is as solid as a rock. We edited and exported a 1080p video for the Google Gadget Original YouTube channel,

, And it only took a long time to complete. Considering this is the export time for desktops using Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050, this is an impressive result of the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics.

What played a huge role in the editing process is the 1TB PCIe 3.0×4 SSD for fast storage and 16GB RAM to keep the program running smoothly. When performing heavy tasks, the computer can be used for about 7 hours, which far exceeds our expectations for Ultrabooks. When performing lighter tasks such as word processing and video streaming, it only lasted more than 14 hours. To charge the PC, it uses a 65W USB Type-C power supply. We tried to recharge it with a Samsung 25W charger, and it worked-but only in a pinch, because the charging time is much longer compared to the included charger.

ASUS stated that it has conducted a MIL-STD-810G test on this computer, which means it has been working in extremely high temperature and cold, high altitude and humid environments. It also has a splash-proof keyboard design, helping to reassure users. We haven't tested any of these claims, but just through the design that feels sturdy, we can know that this laptop may have some malfunctions and still work normally.

Overall, graphic artists will appreciate the powerful functions and versatility brought by UX371. The price of the laptop is R31,000, from
