AJA Desktop Software v16 Brings HDR over SDI, Expands IP Video Functions, and More

AJA released Desktop Software v16, which is a free update that introduces powerful new features to AJA's KONA, Io and T-TAP product lineups, such as high dynamic range (HDR) signaling via SDI, and expanded IP Video features and support for just announced. Desktop Software v16 includes compatibility updates for the latest macOS, Windows and Linux operating systems, including support for macOS 11.x Big Sur, Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, Redhat/CentOS 8 and continued support for Windows 10 updates. Desktop software v16 enhances and expands support for high-end computer hardware, including certified compatibility of AJA PCIe cards and Thunderbolt devices with 2019 Mac Pro, and support for Supermicro X11DAI, X11SPA + TF and X11DPG AJA PCIe cards. For IP video workflows, v16 also enhances compatibility with NMOS compatible devices by updating to NMOS 1.3, and adds improved troubleshooting features through the new LLDP support for KONA IP, Io IP and Avid Artist. With Desktop Software v16, SDI-based HDR can be used on some AJA KONA and Io products and new T-TAP Pro devices. The included AJA control panel software has a redesigned "HDR" tab, which provides HDR controls that can send signals through SDI and HDMI at the same time. New HDR functions for the AJA control room and AJA control panel include the added HDR metadata capture and HDR autoplay detection function for easy use in key surveillance applications. To further simplify AJA's leading 8K workflow, the v16 update also adds KONA 5 8K monitoring and output functions to Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer.

In addition, a new AJA Software Development Kit (SDK) v16 is also provided for OEM development partners, with the goal of simplifying coding and high-end 12-bit/HDR workflows. SDK v16 introduces 12-bit workflow enhancements for KONA 5 and Corvid 44 12G, including support for color space conversion and LUT when using 12-bit materials. The new KONA 5 and Corvid 44 12G 8K-bit file updates provide developers with access to 3G multi-link options other than 12G, as well as new 4:2:0 plane support for encoding solutions, saving savings by supporting direct capture Time and money or output 4:2:0 material without transcoding.
